Client SuccessEnergy Services for the National Grid
NationalGrid required surveys of their assets at over 1,400 exposed pipe bridge crossings.
There are specific health and safety obligations to comply with under current legislation, including Regulation 13 of the Pipeline Safety Regulations 1996. National Grid needed to ensure that all pipelines are maintained, are in a good state of repair, are efficient and in working order.
Our survey gives each exposed pipe a ‘risk score’. This score enables NationalGrid to prioritise its maintenance programme.
Some of the typical information that is required from the Asset Surveys would include:
- What the pipe is crossing (eg. railway line, motorway, dual carriageway, river, canal etc)
- What is the pipe connected to? (eg. free standing, dedicated pipe bridge, attached to structure)
- Is there an anti-vandal device present? What is the condition?
- Specific photographs are also taken to assist NG to assess pipeline condition.
Our choice of download formats and rapid data delivery made NG aware of any issues that might need a more detailed inspection or other remedial actions much quicker than would have been the case previously.
